Little Cowboy is alive against all the odds.

Early one morning Tiffany started to give birth, but after an hour of trying to push the little foal out herself with Mum trying to help she just couldn’t do it so Mum had to call the vet who was out within minutes.  He put his hand inside her to try and pull it out but said that he was almost sure that the little foal was already dead but of course it still had to come out.

Please don’t die little baby

After trying for sometime he had to call another vet to come and assist him and he too, said the same thing that he was almost certain that the little foal had already died. then after a few minutes he managed to get it out. At first there seemed to be no life in the poor little thing,

Come on Darling please get up

then Mum saw a slight movement and said, “It’s alive” and one of the vets said, “no it’s not, it’s just a nerve moving” then it took a breath and tried to get up. Mum picked it up
and put it on the grass for
Tiffany to see and she pawed it to try to get it up.

Two weeks later he was fine

Both vets just couldn’t believe their eyes and looked at each other in utter amazement. After a short rest from his long ordeal he scrambled up onto his feet and soon found where Mum kept his milk but not before giving a little neigh as if to say:

Oh that’s nice and warm Mum

It's okay everyone! I'm alive and … a dear little boy and I am going to be called...

“Cowboy”

It’s just as delicious this side

Mum put them in a warm cosy stable for the night and they soon bonded together.
They both needed a good long sleep to get over their big ordeal.

Mummy is so proud of you Darling

The next morning they were as right as rain and Cowboy has already met his Daddy and all the others at the farm.

A year later Cowboy has changed colour and now looks just like his Father and he’s turned into a real little hooligan.  One day he kicked a lady who came to visit us and then tried to bite her. Minkie was furious with him and said, “from now on my boy you’re going to stay by my side until you’ve learnt, not just some manners, but to be kind to people as well and to do as you’re told.

Father and son – Minkie and Cowboy

You look like me now so people are going to mistake us, so,
you better behave yourself and not let me down

Cowboy is a very naughty, spoilt little pony at the moment.

He’s been staying with a friend of Mum’s for the last six months
and she’s been feeding him titbits like apples, carrots, sugar lumps and polo mints,
which is something we’re not allowed at the Farm. We have our meals at a set time
and nothing in between, other than grass, and hay in the winter.

Cowboy is now three years old

If you start bringing ponies like us a titbit when you come to see us,
we will always expect something, so when you come into our field,
we will come rushing up to you, not to greet you, but to see what you’ve got for us
and if it’s nothing, then we can throw a tantrum just like a child would.

When visitors come into our field to see us, we
will go up to them for a kiss and a cuddle, not for a present.

Really, we’re just like kids who, when Granny comes to see them, always get a gift of some sort and, if one day she hasn’t, get cross with her.

So master Cowboy is coming home again, to be taught some manners and to be a kind, gentle little pony instead of a horrible hooligan! If you want a sweet, affectionate, well behaved pony or horse... DON’T FEED TITBITS!
