One Sunday evening Mum & Dad drove up to Yorkshire to deliver a pony to some friends of theirs. They stayed over night with them and headed back home the following morning, but not before going to have a look around their local market to see the animals ... only to find in a pen, all on her own, a little miniature foal looking very hungry, thirsty, cold and shaking with fear.

Mum asked the market Manager who was standing near by, if he knew what she was doing there? He told me in a gruff voice that some old boy bought her here and said. “Get rid of this thing, I don’t want her!”

“Please don’t let them kill me”

“She’s too, ugly for my Stud. If no one wants her then, she will to be killed” Poor little pony understood everything he was saying and looked at them with absolute terror in her eyes, as if to say, “Please don't let them kill me ”

Mum hugged her and said, “Don't worry little darling we'll take you home with us.” Simon asked the manager if he would show us this horrible man. “He said, Yes, he's just gone into the canteen to get something to eat, so if you come with me I'll point him out to you”. So off they all trundled. Dad approached him and said. "How much do you want for that little shaggy pony you've put in the pen over there?“ "Give us a fiver, buy my breakfast and she's all yours.“

Amy, her Mother

He went on to say how he also bred her sister who was beautiful and covered in black and white spots just like her parents. He said, “he sold her last year to a lady down south. For £1,000 ”

Marcus, her Father

Simon handed him the money for the little pony and then put her in the trailer and they all set off home. During the journey they were trying to think what to call her, and came up with Suki. As soon as they arrived, Dad put her in a warm cosy stable and gave her a nice feed, whilst Mum went indoors and made them a hot drink and something to eat.

Suki had to stay on her own for at least 3 weeks in case she had any infectious illness. The next morning, Mum wormed her and covered her in lice powder as her coat was full of lice which made her want to scratch herself all the time.

Within a couple of months she looked a lot better. Les who trims and files our hoofs for us came over to do Suki’s, but she had other ideas and rushed off around the garden as fast as her little legs would take her as if to say: “Ha, ha Les you can’t catch me!”

Oh yes I can, Suki

Ha, ha you can’t catch me Les!

But she soon found that Les could  run faster than her, and he caught hold of the little monkey and sat her on his bottom and got on with the job.

Now keep still

The following summer Suki looked a different pony, and when her winter coat came out, she was starting to get some spots,

Suki is a year old here

and by the time she was two years old, her back was covered in them, and she was turning into a beautiful little pony.

Just think what a little scruff she was when she arrived, and look at her now!
Very well and very happy.

A year later, a friend of Mum's called Caroline turned up quite unexpectedly. They hadn’t seen each other for about a year and as she was in the area visiting her sister she thought she couldn’t go home without popping in to say hello to us all.

And here she is two years old

After a cup of coffee and the usual women’s chitchat, they came into our field to see us.. When Caroline spotted Suki she couldn't believe her eyes. She looked at Mum and said. "Where did you get that pony from?" She was referring to Suki.

Mum went through the whole story and Caroline said that her pony, who is called Sanita, must be Suki’s beautiful sister, because she bought her up North, paid £1.000 for her, and said the man she got her from was really horrible. They both agreed that the sisters should meet up.

Sanita, I’ve got something to tell you

What is it Suki? It’s a secret and you are not to tell any one.

A couple of days later Caroline was back with Sanita with the idea of leaving the two little ponies together for a week, and then she'd come back again and pick up Sanita and take her back home. As soon as the two ponies were introduced, it was as though they sensed that they were sisters. They immediately seemed to recognize each other and got on very well from the start and never stop talking from morning till night. Once the week was up, neither Mum or Caroline had the heart to separate them both again as they’d become the very best of friends. After a lot of thought … Mum just couldn’t afford £1.000 to buy Sanita from Caroline, so she had to let Caroline buy Suki from her, just so the two ponies could live together, for the rest of their lives.

They both came to say goodbye to me before they left. Suki said, “You know Bubbles, I’m so lucky. To think, I could be dead now if Mum and Dad hadn’t bought me from that horrible man at that market. Now, instead, I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with the best sister in the world, and become a little rich pony.”

I’m so happy Sanita. So am I Suki

Mum had tears pouring down her cheeks as she kissed them both good bye and thanked Caroline for making it possible for them to be together and said she’d visit them as often as she could.
As the horsebox drove off, Mum was crying her eyes out. Caroline rang the next day, to say that they’d both settled in OK and were very happy and promised they would live…

...“Together forever.”
